Default Best class "type" for MotB

This thread could actually go into the Character Optimization thread, but it seemed to be more MotB specific than general.

I'm currently in the middle of Act II in MotB, and it seems like the best type of class suited for this adventure is a fighter type. With the exception of Okku (depending on the path you take), all of my companions are spell casters, and they seem to rain holy hell upon everything in the room.

I've played a bit with a monk, which was pretty fun. Nothing like running circles around the bad guys while Safiya's meteor showers are striking them as they chase you. The Ranger/Duelist (the only character ported in from the OC) did very well too, especially when diving into the middle of a crowd and parrying everything while things are exploding around you (it would be a bummer if the difficulty settings were bumped up though). The Warlock, however, didn't do so well.

The best character so far seems to be the Bard/RDD. Right now he's at Bard 14, Barbarian 1, and RDD 10. He seems to be the best balance of magic, combat, and diplomacy. And he can SING!!!

Then again, I recently came up with the Champion of Mystra build, that combines Sorceror, Paladin, Eldritch Knight, and Divine Champion. That might come out interesting too, esepcially with Automatic Still Spell. He'll be an armored caster.

The best class or class combination is always the one that you have the most fun with. The only character of mine to finish MotB was an Asimaar Paladin4/Cleric26 build and it was great fun, too. Played him mostly as a tank alongside Okku, only used spells when absolutely necessary.

Right now, I have a Sorceress and an AT on hold, somewhere in Act 2, they are great fun, too.

I agree that it seems like there's a lot of magic users in MotB, so a fighter build might be the best bet.

Gotta remember the new Influence system though, so having a character with Diplomacy (if you're good) or Intimidate or Bluff (if you're bad) is a big perk throughout the new module. Having the companions leave you halfway through the game can be a big detriment.

Rogues and Monk are both great because of the large skills offered, and a combo of the two is awesome IMHO.

My character to finish MotB is a human 8Wizard/10EK/12Cleric

I take Healing and War Domain so he is a powerful healer and have free access to Martial Weapon(If you choose a right deity),a Practised Spellcaster(Cleric) to ensure his Heal spell heals 150 points.

Finish Khai Khmun with a Bigby's Forceful Hand and several hits.
Finish Rammaq and the Slumbering Coven with a DC35 Vampiric Feast.
Finish Ser'ryu with a DC34 Damnation.
End the Final Battle with endless Devour Spirit and Bestow Life Force and have a good ending.

You have much leeway to play MOTB however you like.

If you feel that your party is too caster heavy, because face it, Okku/OoM is no sparkling conversationalist, so Safiya/Gann/Kaelyn are the regulars... Nothing say you cant summon meatshield.

Safiya's main choice is Mordenkainen's Sword, which mostly serve as true meatshield.

Gann got Elemental Swarm, which is pretty long running and with 4 elementals replace each other, you dont have to worry about recasting for quite a while.

Kaelyn got her one-a-day Planetar which could serve as emergency option. her main summon should be SC9 or SC8. SC7 or Planar Ally is not that durable.

Yourself. You could cast Tenser/Iron Body if you want to play warrior, or you cast SC9/8.

With 4 summons as a wall between you and enemies, I dont see much need for more fighters.
