Question Problem installing new patch.

I haven't read any other similar problems in this post or others, and this is annoying to me. When I download and try to install the 1101116 to 1111152 patch, the patch loads until it gets to Patching File Modules\B_X1.mod , then it stops and I get this error message.

An incorrect version of the file was found on your system.
The update was unable to complete, since the file contents were incorrect.
E:\Atari\Modules\B_X1.mod
File Size: 240819073
File CheckSum: cdcf3646ececea644bf362a09 12e9500

The patch has been aborted

I have gone to the Atari Support page and have gotten no help. Please give me some suggestions. Thanks

Probably a corrupted module. I suggest reinstalling the game and then repatching. Remove everything from your override folder and back up your saved games and characters first.

That usually happens - happened to me, too - when you open a module and either Autosave it or Save it on exit. I'll have to reinstall everything when patch 1.12 arrives.

There is another solution to this, without doing a complete re-install.
All you have to re-install is MoTB, but first you must delete the B_x1.mod.

Have you ever opened up the game in the toolset?

Did you view the B_x1.mod?

If you did, sometimes the patch considers that mod incorrect then, especially if you made any changes. I placed some arrows, and armor for a companion and the patch considered the mod incorrect.

I opened the mod directory in Program Files and deleted the B_x1.mod, then re-installed MoTB, then auto-patched and it went smoothly.

If your not sure how to find the B_x1.mod just ask, there's a lot of very helpful people here at TTG.

sirchet, you reinstalled MotB over an already installed MotB?

The B_x1.mod is located here:

C:\Program Files\Atari\Neverwinter Nights 2\Modules\

One way to check quickly to see if it's a toolset issue is to check the time / date on the B_x1.mod file. If it differs susbtantially from the time/dates of it's neighbors it likely an issue with the mod being saved in the toolset. To avoid that turn the AutoSave option OFF. Look under options and toggle AUtoSave to 'false'.

I agree kgambit, there is no way I'm going to work on a mod, and have it stop me in the middle of something because it wants to save. Thank God for the helpful people over at the citadel that filled me in when I first started. NHiN chapter 2 is about 12-14 hours play-time, and you know how long that takes to save in the toolset.

Yes, I re-installed MoTB over an older install, simply go; start, my computer, whichever drive is your cd/dvd drive, right click on NWN2MOTB, choose explore, double click setup.exe, and voilą you're re-installing MoTB.

Remember to delete the mod in question first.

btw...I knew where to find the file, I just thought I'd take advantage of the chance to promote the resident modding GURU's here at TTG.

Well, you are right of course. What messes my installation up occasionally is that I misclick on exit from the toolset. But no big deal ...

I wouldn't have thought you could do that. But spank me and call me Trudi but it does work. Thanks for the tip.

For the LIFE of me, I do NOT understand why the default mode for the toolset is to have AUTOSAVE set to ON. I would have thought that anyone doing any serious modding would have saved frequently as a natural course of action.

yeah, well, yes, all good points ... But what the devs really need to fix is to make it so that the installation does not become unpatchable. Theoretically, the program should be written so well that one would be able to reinstall it on top of itself. Usually, I opt for a clean reinstall. ah well, next time I'll make clean back-up copies that are easily restored.

In text editing software auto-save every 5-10 minutes can be a life saviour. Also, for the average unexperienced toolset user it may be advisable to leave auto-save on, provided he makes clean back-up copies first.
